Zippo Collection

Over the years i have collected quite a number of Zippo lighters. Some I bought on my travels and others were gifts.

Collectors/Special Edition Zippo's

Zippo Armor™ Case

The distinctive symbol on the bottom stamp authenticates this lighter as heavy walled Armor. The Armor case is about 1.5 times as thick as a standard Zippo case.

This lighter was a gift from my wife on our 8th wedding anniversary (Bronze is one of the symbols of the 8th anniversary).

Production: November 2014

D-Day 70th Anniversary 1944 - 2014

Text on the back of the box: Zippo commemorates one of the boldest military operations in history with a historically significant gift set containing a genuine Zippo windproof lighter, dubbed the GI's friend during World War II; and an authentic Acme Cricket*, a hand-held clicker used to transmit coded signals to Allied troops during the D-Day invasion. Each brushed brass lighter is consecutively numbered. The D-Day 70th Anniversary collectible is limited to only 7,000 sets worldwide.

 * The In World War II Clickers were used by Allied paratroopers preceding and during Operation Overlord as a way of covertly identifying friend from foe. A soldier would click once and if two clicks were received in return from an unidentifiable soldier then his identification was confirmed. In addition to this recognition mean, an oral code was developed (valid 24 hours after the start of the operations): "Flash", a word which should meet "Thunder". The second day, the code became: "Hustle" - "Along".

This lighter was a gift from my wife on Father's Day 2015.

100 Years of Aviation Celebration™ - The Wright Brothers™ Limited Edition

In 2003, the world celebrated the 100 year anniversary of the flight of the Wright brothers on the 17th of December 1903, in the Wright Flyer, at Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina.

Text inside cover of the box: From the back doors of the Wright Brothers' bicycle shop, an ingenious dream was spinning that took shape in the form of wings. Orville and Wilbur Wright's unwavering determination moved them towards a lifetime of ambition, despite overpowering odds, tremendous doubts, and a series of failures. Though their kites, gliders, and flyers would repeatedly crash, fold and flop, their long-term goal could not be frustrated. With every fall arose a new challenge to mend broken wings and eventually make their dreams take flight.

Zippo proudly introduces this limited collectable to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Wright Brothers' first flight. Limited to 7500 consecutively numbered pieces worldwide, each lighter carries a full face, silver stenciled emblem commemorating 100 Years of Aviation™. May your dreams "take flight" with this genuine Wright Brothers Zippo collectible.

Text on the back of the box: The Wright Brothers and achievements embody the true spirit of America: creativity, innovation, perseverance, risk and reward. Most of all, the Wright Brothers were creators...creators of invention, hope and inspiration.

Personalized Zippo

Now this Zippo has quite a history.

The 1st owner was with the NYPD. He left the NYPD and went on to work for the US army in Vietnam as a pilot. He had the NYPD badge and Huey added on the front.

He then gave the lighter to David Scott-Donelan whom he met during an exercise with the British SAS. David moved on from the British SAS and joined the Rhodesian Selous Scouts and later the SA 5 Reconnaissance Regiment. David had the SA 5 Reconnaissance Regiment badge added to the top of the back.

David gave the lighter to Jack Wright. Jack was part of the SA Marine Corps. During his service he was stationed at Wenela on the Zambezi, which fell under the command of the 701 Battalion. Jack had the 701 Battalion badge added to the bottom of the back, with his name.

This was a gift from my friend Jack.
